Casework
and Counselling
Casework and counselling for single parent
families are provided to help them cope with their bereavement,
divorce, desertion or separation. The main focus is to facilitate their
emotional recovery from the loss. They are also assisted in dealing
with other issues arising out of the divorce, separation or death of
the spouse/ parent in the family.
Objective:
Counselling acts as a means to render support and empowerment to
single- parent families to cope with their struggles. A systemic
approach is undertaken to understand the relationship between single
parents, their family and the environment in their coping with the
struggles. Hence instead of working solely with the individual, the
agency works with the whole family in the context of the bigger system
- society. The counselling helps single parents and their children to
work through their grief and reorganization of the family. It aims
towards healing, stability, growth and acceptance of the new family
unit.

The frequency and the length of the counselling session is assessed by
