Life goes on day by day
No one knows what will come their way
Sun goes up and sun goes down
But if I could have my way right now
I’ll turn your world around

I look in your eyes, I see your pain
I’d give my world to make you smile again
With a little help, we’ll get our feet back on the ground
And If I could have my way right now
I’ll turn your world around

One day soon we will lose our pain
One day soon we’ll learn to trust again
Because trust that’s lost can alway be found
And if I could have may way right now
I’ll turn your world around

Commitment to Compassion

Today, we welcome children, adolescents and adults who are grieving into our heart.

We commit to support them through their journey from hurt to healing.

We promise to listen with our hearts without making judgements.

We will refrain from giving advice or platitudes, for there are no answers to loss.

We wish to instill in them the seeds of healing and acceptance, for these gifts bring hope to the bereaved.

We want to be a guide to the discovery of how truly special and lovable each person is.

We will wipe away the tears of those who morn so that they may be able to see the bright Rainbow after
their family’s storm.

This story was sent to Rainbows Headquarters by 17 year-old Abigail Durka, a Rainbows Alum.

When you’re in fourth grade fights with friends seem like the end of the world. Now imagine your whole family fighting. My parents were getting divorced; my mom was remarried to a man who hated me as much as I hated him. My grandmother died of cancer, my mom almost died of a deadly infection, my dad was sick all the time, and to top it all off, I had been living with ADHD my whole life without knowing it, making my life that much more complicated.

Adults can say that they understand what you’re going through. That they know what you’re feeling but they don’t. I had talked to counselors, psychologists, doctors, family, friends, but it seemed like nobody wanted to hear what I had to say or that nobody could understand how I was feeling.

Rainbows opened up a whole new world to me. Rainbows gave me the support I needed to carry on and the strength I needed when mine was running low. Despite how bad my week was going I always knew that I could count on my Rainbows group to help me understand my emotions and to listen to what I was saying rather then trying to analyze my emotions. Rainbows was the best therapy offered to me. To this day I use what I learned in Rainbows to help carry me through life’s struggles, because lets face it, as time goes on our problems change but they never really go away.

I know that whenever I need to talk to someone I can log onto Facebook and find someone who went to Rainbows that will listen to me and give me advice. I am so thankful to Rainbows for helping me. I am honored to be part of such a great program and I want to do my best to help this wonderful organization and much as I can!
